Loreena McKennitt
20.03.2027 | 20:00 | Wiener Stadthalle - Halle D
For more than three decades, Canadian artist Loreena McKennitt has explored the many facets of Celtic music, creating a unique fusion of folk, world music, and pop. Seemingly effortless, she combines instrumental and vocal perfection with deep emotion, crafting a soundscape that enchants listeners around the world. In spring 2027, the passionate globetrotter returns to Europe on tour, including a stop at the Wiener Stadthalle on 20 March 2027.
The upcoming tour will focus on her landmark album The Mask and The Mirror, alongside other fan favorites. Loreena McKennitt will be joined by five of her longtime musical companions: Caroline Lavelle (cello), Brian Hughes (guitar), Hugh Marsh (violin), Dudley Phillips (bass), and Robert Brian (drums). The first half of the evening will feature her most beloved songs, while the second half will present The Mask and The Mirror in the original sequence of the 1994 album.
McKennitt explains that with The Mask and The Mirror, she followed “paths of inspiration” and explored “essential human questions” about the existence of God, religion, and spirituality. “What was revealed and what remained hidden, what was the mask and what the mirror? We are excited to return to Europe for another chapter and cannot wait to see everyone again and share our music.”
Her acclaimed performances blend music and storytelling inspired by her explorations of Celtic history and culture. Mystical Irish poetry by W. B. Yeats and John Keats intertwines with texts by literary masters such as William Shakespeare and Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Intimacy and deeply personal stories shape Loreena McKennitt’s concerts, while her crystal-clear soprano voice and versatility on harp, piano, and bandoneon remain her unmistakable trademarks.
Over the course of her career, Loreena McKennitt has sold more than 14 million albums worldwide, including over 1.6 million in Germany alone — a remarkable triumph of musical poetry. Her recordings have achieved gold, platinum, and multi-platinum status in 15 countries across four continents. She has received two Juno Awards and the Billboard International Achievement Award, as well as two Grammy nominations.
As a musical ambassador, she has represented Canada around the globe, composed film scores, and performed at countless renowned festivals. In 1985, she used her savings to produce her first album and founded her own record label. As one of the few truly independent artists, she has since maintained complete control over her song selection, production, design, and distribution.
