Merlin or the waste land

Once upon a time, there was a wizard named Merlin who was destined to lead humanity toward evil. Yet he defied his mandate and appointed Arthur as king, tasking him with founding a Round Table to serve as a place of equality and a guardian of justice. However, this utopia began to falter as the Knights of the Round Table clashed over power struggles, betrayal, and scandalous affairs, and the new generation—embodied by Sir Mordred—ultimately challenged every established moral code...

Drawing on the epic tales of Merlin, King Arthur, and the Round Table, Tankred Dorst and Ursula Ehler crafted this play—completed in 1980—as a fable about the failure of utopias. … And if they haven\\\'t died, they are still searching for the good in the world to this day.
